Hace un mes publiqué en Twitter y Facebook (pinchad en los enlaces si queréis ver las actualizaciones que voy haciendo en ambas redes día a día) el video que ha hecho David Castro González para la canción Gold Leaf de Epic Handshakes and a Bear Hug, aún no lo había puesto por aquí.
David es un alumno de Comunicación Audiovisual de la Universidad de Burgos que decidió utilizar la canción para hacer uno de sus ejercicios y el resultado es alucinante, parece totalmente un video profesional.

A month ago I uploaded to Twitter and Facebook (click on the links in case that you want to follow the daily posts I write on both sites) a video that David Castro González has made for the song Gold Leaf from Epic Handshakes and a Bear Hug. I hadn't posted it here before.
David studies Audiovisual Communication at Burgos University (Spain) and he decided to use this song for one of his assignments. The result is amazing, it totally looks like a professional video!
Aprovechando la reedición de Epic Handshakes and a Bear Hug de la mano de Lovemonk, hemos grabado un videoclip de la canción 1918-1920. Lo ha dirigido Christian López con la ayuda de la productora The Lift.
Hace ya un año y medio recibí un email desde Australia de un chico español que vivía por allá y que, por casualidad, un australiano le había puesto el disco de Wild Honey como ejemplo de música hecha en España. Christian, tras escuchar el disco, se puso en contacto conmigo diciéndome que trabajaba en publicidad y que la canción 1918-1920 le había sugerido una idea para hacer un video.
La idea es tal cual la que aparece hoy en el video. Se podía haber quedado todo por el camino, pero tras conocernos en persona en Madrid, y tras varios intentos de poner en marcha el rodaje, finalmente todo encajó y un año y medio después de ese email el video es ya una realidad. Así que me hace especial ilusión que todo haya salido de esta manera.

Following the Epic Handshakes and a Bear Hug European reissue by Lovemonk, we've filmed a video for the song 1918-1920. The promo video has been directed by Christian López with the help of the production company The Lift.
A year and a half ago I received an email from a Spanish guy living in Australia. An Australian friend of him had told him about Wild Honey as an example os music made in Spain. Christian, right after listening to the song 1918-1920, wrote me telling me that he worked on the advertising world and that he had had an idea for a video with that song.
The idea he told me about back then was exactly the one that you can see in the video today. Everything could have ended in nothing but after meeting him in Madrid and after several times of trying to put together the production, finally all the pieces fitted and a year and a half later that email had turned into a video. I'm specially happy that everything has turned out this way.
Besides that, it seems that people are liking the video a lot and there have been several good reviews of the video so far:

Como no tengo presupuesto para hacer un videoclip de verdad de Diamond Mountain, he montado unas imágenes de The Wicker Man, una de mis películas favoritas, para ilustrar la canción. Aquí el resultado de un par de horas trasteando con el programa de edición del ordenador:

As I don’t have budget to shoot a proper promo video for Diamond Mountain, I’ve decided to put together scenes of one of my favorite movies, The Wicker Man, to illustrate the song. See above the result of a couple of hours trying to understand the edition software of my computer.
Diamond Mountains is de A side of the 7” that I released in Jabalina last October. The three songs included in the 7” can be listened on Spotify or Bandcamp.
El pasado 6 de noviembre tocamos por segunda vez en lo que va de año en Londres. Fue dentro de los eventos organizados por Spain Now y La Fonoteca para promocionar la música española por allá. A nosotros nos tocó hacer el concierto en The Cinema Museum, un sitio bastante apartado pero que resultó ser increíble: más cerca de una colección privada desproporcionada y llena de polvo de todo tipo de alucinantes objetos relacionados con el cine, que de un museo propiamente dicho. Seguramente el sitio más chulo en el que he tocado nunca.

Y María Martínez ha colgado un video de Whistling Rivalry (suya es la foto que encabeza este post).
Al día siguiente, a la salida de un divertidísimo concierto de The Vicars y Los Explosivos, tuve la mala suerte de que me atropellara un coche. Tengo una pequeña rotura en la rodilla y una bastante más severa en el hombro, por lo que me toca una temporada de reposo y luego de rehabilitación para quedar como nuevo. Así que he tenido que cancelar los conciertos de Wild Honey previstos para noviembre y diciembre. Me da especial pena no hacer nuestro concierto navideño anual en el que tocamos “Phil Spector’s A Christmas Gift for You”, que esta vez iba a ser a lo grande en la Plaza de Oriente de Madrid. A ver si para las Navidades de 2011 podemos retomar esta mini tradición.
Espero estar totalmente recuperado a principios de 2011, así que iré actualizando con los conciertos que vayan saliendo más adelante y con todo lo que vaya planeando durante mi recuperación.

Last 6th November we played, for the second time this year, in London. Our gig was part of a series of events put together by Spain Now! and La Fonoteca to promote the Spanish music in London. The venue of our gig was The Cinema Museum, a place in the middle of nowhere that turned out to be amazing: not what you expect from a museum and more like a huge, crazy and dusty collection of cinema-related objects. No doubt this is the coolest place I’ve ever played at.

Next day, right after an incredible gig by The Vicars and Los Explosivos, I had the bad luck to be hit by a car. I’ve got a small fracture on my knee and a more serious one on my shoulder, which means that I have to spend some time resting and then do physical rehabilitation to avoid a long time injure. Therefore, I have to cancel all Wild Honey gigs planned for November and December. I’m specially sorry to cancel our annual Christmas gig where we play Phil Spector’s “A Christmas Gift for You”, since this year was going to take place at Plaza de Oriente, a huge and beautiful open air square in Madrid.
I hope to be in perfect shape in a couple of months, so I’ll keep you updated on future gigs and on everything I plan while I’m recovering from the accident.

Ver un concierto propio en la tele es algo rarísimo, sobre todo por la impotencia de no poder retocar algunos temas de sonido y porque te arrepientes de haber estado tan serio (¡las cámaras de televisión intimidan!).
Pero es una experiencia muy chula y creo que el concierto quedó bastante bien. Muchísimas gracias de nuevo a la gente de Radio 3 por invitarnos a tocar. A ver qué os parece a los que ayer no pudisteis verlo...

Watching yourself on TV is a really weird experience: you feel powerless for not being able to correct the audio mix and you regret that you were so serious on stage (playing in front of TV cameras is something intimidating!).
But we had a lot of fun, it was definitely an incredible experience and I think that the concert looks ok. Thanks again to the people at Radio 3 for inviting us to play on TV. I hope that you like it!
