Proyectos paralelos // Side projects

Aunque ya estoy totalmente metido en la preparación de mi segundo disco, esta semana hay bastantes novedades de cosas que estoy haciendo paralelamente a Wild Honey:

TEACHER TEACHER

He empezado un grupo nuevo con María (que ha tocado estos últimos años en Charades, Las Señoras, Mittens, etc.) y Cristina (también Las Señoras, Shellac Family, etc). Ayer lunes subimos a Bandcamp nuestras dos primeras canciones, una de ellas una versión de Ocean de Sebadoh en castellano:

Chin Chin records mundiales, el sello que han montado Los Ginkas, han publicado un recopilatorio muy chulo para el que Mittens hemos aportado dos canciones que permanecían inéditas hasta ahora:

CORTOMETRAJES

El año pasado tuve la suerte de hacer música para dos cortometrajes. La sorpresa es que hoy se han anunciado las nominaciones a los premios Goya y los dos están entre los nominados: Regreso a Viridiana (dirigido por Pedro González) como mejor cortometraje documental, y Meine Liebe (dirigido por Laura Pousa y Ricardo Steinberg) como mejor documental de ficción. Estoy muy contento de haber podido participar en dos cortos tan chulos:

Even though I'm fully working on my second album, this week there are a lot of news regarding some of my side projects.

TEACHER TEACHER

I've started a new band with my friends María (she has played in the last years with Charades, Las Señoras, Mittens, etc) and Cristina (she has also played with Las Señoras, Shellac Family, etc). Yesterday we uploaded to our bandcamp our first two songs, one of them a cover in Spanish of Sebadoh's Ocean:

CORTOMETRAJES

Last year I was lucky enough to write and record the music for two short films. The nominations for the Goya Awards have been announced today and both shorts are among the nominees: Regreso a Viridiana (directed by Pedro González) as best documentary short film and Meine Liebe (directed by Laura Pousa y Ricardo Steinberg) as best fiction short film. I'm very happy to have been able to take part in the making of these two short films!

Antes de meterme de lleno en la grabación del segundo Lp de Wild Honey, unas cuantas cosas: ya estamos preparando los conciertos de Navidad en los que interpretaremos íntegramente el "A Christmas Gift for You" de Phil Spector (dos fechas en Madrid y una en Logroño). Además, en unas semanas Lovemonk pondrá a la venta "Fake Horoscopes" un 7" con dos chulísimos remixes de canciones de Epic Handshakes and a Bear Hug.

Before starting to record Wild Honey's second album, there are a couple of things I'm working on at the moment: we'll give three gigs playing Phil Spector's Christmas classic album "A Christmas Gift for You" in its entirely (two dats in Madrid and one in Logroño). Besides that, Lovemonk will release in some weeks "Fake Horoscopes", a 7" with two amazing remixes from Epic Handshakes and a Bear Hug.

Wild Honey & Nine Stories ¡Este viernes 18 de noviembre!

Llevo desde el verano trabajando en canciones nuevas de lo que será el segundo disco de Wild Honey. Mi idea es empezar a grabar en serio a partir de marzo, todavía estoy cerrando algunos flecos pero estoy muy ilusionado con la grabación que estoy planificando. Ya iré contando novedades por aquí.

Antes de ponerme a tope con el disco tenemos algunos conciertos programados. El que más ilusión me hace es el del próximo viernes 18 de noviembre en el Neu Club de Madrid (Galileo Galilei). Wild Honey tocamos con uno de mis grupos favoritos de Madrid, Nine Stories, con los que además compartimos un montón de cosas (podéis escuchar aquí su primer disco). Teníamos muchas ganas de tocar juntos de nuevo y que mejor sitio para hacerlo que el Neu, nuestra sala favorita de Madrid. Es un programa doble que esperamos quede bien chulo.

Además, hace bastante que no tocamos en directo con batería, y ya hemos visto en los ensayos con Skaf que es un gustazo tocar así, después de confiar únicamente en la caja de ritmos para los directos durante más de un año.

El cartel del concierto de Wild Honey y Nine Stories lo ha hecho Ricardo Cavolo y es uno de los carteles más alucinantes que he visto en mi vida. Hemos hecho una tirada limitada por si a alguien le apetece conseguir una copia el viernes que viene.

I’ve been working on new songs for Wild Honey’s second album since last summer. Mi plan is to start recording the songs properly in March, I’m still closing all the details but I’m really happy with everything that I’m putting together for the new record. I’ll keep this blog updated with all the news regarding the recording.

Before the recording, I have a few shows booked. The one I’m looking forward to the most is next Friday 18th November at the Neu Club in Madrid (Galileo Galilei). We will play with one of my favorite bands from Madrid, Nine Stories, a band we have a lot in common with (check their debut album here). We decided to organize a gig together, and the best place to do it was our favorite venue in Madrid, the Neu Club. It will be our first gig with a drummer in a while, we have relied on a beatbox for the last year and a half, and after reharsing with Skaf a couple of times I’ve realized how much I missed to play with a real drummer.

The poster for the Wild Honey + Nine Stories gig has been done by Ricardo Cavolo. It looks amazing, one of the most beautiful gig posters I’ve seen in my life, and that’s why we’ve decided to make a limited print of it, so copies will be available at the gig next Friday.

Ascensores a la planta trece

Hoy se ha publicado "Ascensores a la planta trece" mi aportación a Robo, al proyecto de creación musical colectiva alrededor del movimiento 15M comandado entre otros por Roberto Herreros (Garzón, LaDinamo, etc.). Podéis escuchar y descargar la canción aquí:

No suelo escribir canciones en castellano y tampoco con un contenido político tan claro, así que me tomé la propuesta como un desafío ya que que me encanta la idea detrás del colectivo y tenía curiosidad de ver qué podía salir. La canción tiene una introducción que quería que sonase a Twilight Zone , una especie de transición a una dimensión desconocida lejos de los sonidos y de lo que suelo hacer con Wild Honey.

I don't normally write songs in Spanish and my lyrics don't have a clear political message, but I accepted to participate because I like challenges and I love the idea around the collective. The song has an intro that I wanted it to sound like a Twilight Zone episode, like entering a different world that has little to do with what I normally do with Wild Honey.
