De vez en cuando me escribe gente preguntando por los acordes de la canción Isabella. Así que creo que es una buena idea publicarlos aquí para aquellos a los que se les pase por la cabeza alguna vez tocarla con la guitarra o el ukelele.

Empezando 2012 con las pilas cargadas: en los próximos días saldrá un 7" de remezclas de Wild Honey, las dos primeras canciones de mi nuevo grupo Teacher Teacher, y dos temas inéditos de Mittens. ¡Permanezcan en sintonía!

Starting 2012 full of energy: in the next few days I will release a new 7" with Wild Honey remixes, the first two songs of my new band Teacher Teacher, and two unreleased songs by Mittens. Stay tuned!

Hoy se ha publicado "Ascensores a la planta trece" mi aportación a Robo, al proyecto de creación musical colectiva alrededor del movimiento 15M comandado entre otros por Roberto Herreros (Garzón, LaDinamo, etc.). Podéis escuchar y descargar la canción aquí:

No suelo escribir canciones en castellano y tampoco con un contenido político tan claro, así que me tomé la propuesta como un desafío ya que que me encanta la idea detrás del colectivo y tenía curiosidad de ver qué podía salir. La canción tiene una introducción que quería que sonase a Twilight Zone , una especie de transición a una dimensión desconocida lejos de los sonidos y de lo que suelo hacer con Wild Honey.

Today I have released a new song "Ascensores a la planta trece", my contribution to Robo, a musical collective that has asked several band and artists to write songs around the Spanish 15M movement. You can listen to and download the song here:

I don't normally write songs in Spanish and my lyrics don't have a clear political message, but I accepted to participate because I like challenges and I love the idea around the collective. The song has an intro that I wanted it to sound like a Twilight Zone episode, like entering a different world that has little to do with what I normally do with Wild Honey.

Hemos preparado un texto para contar cómo ha surgido la idea:

“Summertime blues”, “Vacation”, “Sunny”, “Here comes the summer”, “School’s out”, “Heat wave”… el verano, las vacaciones y el calor han sido siempre una fuente de emociones que ha marcado infinitas canciones dentro de la historia del Pop, e incluso han llegado a  denominar estilos musicales como el Sunshine Pop.

A Wild Honey y Ana Lógica les une una pasión por esta tradición pop y, tras coincidir en varios conciertos e intercambiarse una buena ristra de emails, decidieron unir fuerzas para componer canciones dedicada a la que es seguramente la estación más musical de todas.

Dos temas inéditos, escritos y grabados con la idea de editar este siete pulgadas compartido (esa idea tan de Brill Bulding de hacer canciones “por encargo”) en donde se cruzan amores de verano, tardes perdidas, calor asfixiante, promesas de días sin fin, euforia y melancolía.

“My Girlfriend Ronnie” y “El día más largo” fueron grabadas en mayo de 2011 (en bañador y chanclas, para tratar de tener presente de alguna manera el verano) en los respectivos estudios de Ana Lógica y Wild Honey y fueron masterizadas por Jordi Gil (Sr. Chinarro) en su estudio de Sevilla, Sputnik.

And here’s the text we’ve written explaining why we’ve published a thematic 7":

“Summertime blues”, “Vacation”, “Sunny”, “Here comes the summer”, “School’s out”, “Heat wave”… summer has always been a season full of emotions that has been reflected in thousands of songs throughout pop history, even naming musical styles like Sunshine pop.

Wild Honey and Ana Lógica share this passion for this pop tradition. After playing together in a couple of festivals and sending back and forth lots of emails, they decided to join forces and write and release two songs devoted to this season, that they both consider is the most musical of them all.

Two songs written and recorded specially for this release (pretending they were working at the Brill Building and were commissioned with this assignment) where you’ll find summer loves, wasted afternoons, unbearable heat, endless days, euphoria and melancholy.

“My Girlfriend Ronnie” and “El día más largo” were recorded in May 2011 (wearing swimming suits and flip flops to catch the right summer mood) on Ana Lógica's and Wild Honey's recording studios, and were mastered by Jordi Gil (Sr. Chinarro) at Sputnik (Sevilla).

Wiped Away

Pequeño experimento: Ayer (9 de junio de 2011) Google dedicó su doodle a Les Paul, haciendo posible tocar desde el buscador una especie de guitarra sintética que tenía un sonido muy chulo. Lo vi por la mañana en el trabajo, donde perdí 5 minutos tonteando, y me entraron muchas ganas de utilizarlo en alguna canción.

El problema es que los doodles suelen duran un único día. Así que ayer por la noche, mientras mi novia veía un par de capítulos de Big Love, escribí y grabé esta mini canción que he titulado Wiped Away. A parte del doodle de Google, la canción lleva voz, una caja de ritmos y efectos.

Little experiment: yesterday (June 9th 2011), Google had a special doodle dedicated to Les Paul, a kind of synthetic guitar with a really cool sound that you could play while browsing the web. I saw it at work (and I wasted 5 minutes playing around with it) and I thought of using it on a song.

The problem with doodles is that usually they last just for a day. So yesterday night, while my girlfriend watched a couple of episodes of Big Love, I wrote and recorded this small song that I've called Wiped Away. Besides the Google doodle, the song has a voice, a beatbox and some FXs.

Hay un nuevo single en vinilo en camino. Se trata de un 7" compartido con el grupo granadino Ana Lógica. Desde hace tiempo esta banda vienen sacando recopilatorios digitales temáticos acerca del invierno o del verano (dependiendo de la estación en la que se publicaran). Para este verano han querido repetir la idea, esta vez en vinilo, y me pidieron que escribiera y grabara una canción para una de las caras.

El 7" saldrá a finales de mes con la llegada del verano y lo edita en una tirada limitadísima (¡solo 250 copias!) Clifford records. Las canciones tanto de Ana Lógica como de Wild Honey estarán también en descarga gratuita (pero todos sabemos que lucirán mucho mejor en vinilo).

There's a new single on vinyl on the way. It's a split 7" with Ana Lógica, a great band from Granada (Spain). This band has been releasing thematic compilations with songs about winter or summer (depending on the season they released them). And for this next summer they've decided to release it on vinyl and they have asked me to write and record a song especially for it.

The 7" will be available by the end of the month and it's going to be a very limited edition of just 250 copies on Clifford records. Both Wild Honey's and Ana Lógica's songs will also be available as a free download (but we all know they will look much better on vinyl!)

Hace un par de semanas hicimos un acústico para Como lo oyes, el programa de Santi Alcanda en Radio3. Tocamos una versión de Ave Lucifer de Os Mutantes, uno de mis grupos favoritos, que creo que quedó bastante chula. La podéis escuchar y descargar en Soundcloud:

A couple of weeks ago we did an acoustic set for Como lo Oyes, Santi Alcanda's radio show at Radio3 (Spanish Public Radio). We covered Ave Lucifer by Os Mutantes, one of my favorite bands. I think that it was a cool performance, you can listen and download the song from Soundcloud:

I was commissioned to record this cover by Radio 3 for their Saint Valentine day special programming. It's one of the highest honors to be the intro theme of the best music radio program in the whole world.
